On our last vacation, my husband and I spent a night in New Orleans, Louisiana to attend a Weird Al concert and then fly out to visit family in Tucson, Arizona. New Orleans (NOLA) is a bustling city especially the French Quarter area with live music and street performers. We were lucky enough to stay close to the French Quarter. Before the concert, my husband and I wondered down to the French Quarter for the traditional beignets and coffee at Cafe Du Monde. Their iced chicory coffee is a favorite of mine which I always get when I am there as we only live about an hour and half away.
While we were there, we went into some of the shops including a hot sauce shop. My husband tried the hottest hot sauce they made. He had the hiccups for so long along with a red face and tears streaming, it was and still is a funny memory we talk and laugh about. Though my face was probably as red and my tears were as free flowing as his were but mine was from laughter. After a good lunch consisting of a muffuletta sandwich and a po'boy, we wondered around the French Quarter along the water before heading back to our hotel.
We caught an Uber back to the hotel, which was a very reasonable price. In addition, we did not have to drive the confusing roads which several are one way streets in addition to the roads being tight. Once we were back in our hotel room, which was a beautiful suite that we could walk out the sliding glass door to the pool. We cooled off (because humidity is a real thing) and rested up for the concert.
Now, I have been a fan of Weird Al since I was in high school thanks to a friend of mine who introduced me to his music. If you like parody songs, I HIGHLY suggest you check out his music! One of my all-time favorite songs is actually "Amish Paradise" while my husband loves all the Star Wars songs. We took an Uber to the Saenger Theater for the concert, once again thankful we did as it was very inexpensive! The theater itself was amazing and one of the most beautiful theaters I believe I have ever seen! The concert was amazing and we had a wonderful time.
After the concert, we headed back to the hotel to order food for delivery and rest up before our very early flight from NOLA to Tucson. We just had basic McDonald's as we were tired and needed to get into bed early. This was a wonderful Marriott brand hotel that we stayed in. The only thing that threw me for a loop was the valet parking. That tended to be more than what I expected and was mandatory at the hotel. It was a double edged sword because it was nice we didn't have to really worry about our car, but it being mandatory and the priced kind of shocked me. I would still go back and stay in heartbeat though because of the proximity to things. In addition, there are so many things I want to see and do in NOLA, I would not hesitate to go back and spend a few more nights again.
We were able to leave our car at another hotel closer to the airport for a fee. I do not know if this hotel does it any longer because the NOLA airport (MSY) is operating at a brand new airport. This was our last flight out of this airport before the change. It was a very early flight and we were there the two hours before hand. I always recommend at least two hours before your flight because you never know what could happen or what hold ups could happen.
Once we checked in, received our tickets for our flight on Southwest, and made our way through security, we found our gates before getting some breakfast. Our flights were short with a quick layover in Denver, we found ourselves once again headed towards Tucson. If you have never even seen the Denver airport, it is a beautiful airport that has SO much to see in it!
We finally landed in Tucson which is where my husband was born and raised. We lived there for 2 years before moving to Phoenix for 2 years and then we moved to Mississippi for my husbands job. I do miss it, the food, and no mosquitoes - they tend to love me, but I do not like or love them. Our very first stop was one of our favorite drive through authentic Mexican food places for Carne Asada burritos and Mexican coke. It was such a great lunch!
Our time in Tucson was short as we wanted to visit many of our favorite places and restaurants along with visiting friends and family. We also hit up Eegee's, Bisbee Breakfast Club, and other favorite local places. As I am typing this, my mouth is watering! We also spend a night in Phoenix to see our friends there and go to a few of our favorite places there - one being Hurtz doughnuts. I am not a sweets person, but I do love their apple pie doughnut. Our time flew by as we spent most of it with friends and family and that is who we stayed with. Tucson and Phoenix always will be a special place to me that I do miss. Soon, we said goodbye, or see you next time, to Arizona to come back home.
I am looking forward to being able to travel again and visiting new places. I have some upcoming adventures which I do look forward to sharing. I hope that you enjoyed reading about our trip! I look forward to sharing more and other travel related things. Please let me know if there is anything that you wish me to discuss or share!
Stay safe, enjoy life, and escape the ordinary,
Chelsea
